一个寡言的9岁捷克男孩是奥斯维斯集中营的幸存者，在战后的德国，他逃离难民营，被一个美国兵士发现。同时，他家里的唯一幸存者是母亲，她在多个难民营中苦苦寻找儿子。时间，遥远的路程和大量的难民儿童数目都大大妨碍了母亲顺利地和儿子团圆。A silent nine-year-old Czech boy, a survivor of Auschwitz, flees a refugee center in postwar Germany and is found by an American G.I. At the same time, the boy's mother, the sole surviving member of his family, searches refugee centers for her son. Time, distance, and the massive numbers of refugee children are factors hampering the reunion of mother and son.
