[吃素人民黨」主席徐玖經在己身素食事业有成的情況下，忧国忧民，決心出来竞选中華民国的总統，以建立一个吃素健康安乐的國度为职志。 「為人民服務」一片，便是記載徐玖經競選總統過程的一部記錄電影。 片中不但對徐玖的成長背景和他創業素食王國的故事有周詳的介紹；此外，藉著記錄徐玖經競選總部內的點點滴滴，以及徐玖經的日常活動，也可讓觀眾看到台灣政治最赤裸但最真實的一面，从而反映出當代台灣社会的价值观及現狀。徐玖經最後因為緋聞而退出總統大選，可是台灣的政治早已告訴大家，「休息是为了走更远的路」。The Candidate is a 'docucomedy' of a wealthy and controversial tycoon's run for the presidency of Taiwan, with the express agenda of turning the country into a pure vegetarian nation. The film records for history the courageous bid for Taiwan's highest office by Mr. Hsu Giu Jing, Chairman and CEO of Formosa Vegetables, detailing his upbringing that led him to the road of vegetarianism and lifting the cloak of secrecy often associated with the Vegetarian Movement.
