Plot Summary:A-Mien, a kind and loving 50-year-old woman, runs a grocery store in a remote mountain village. In her store, she keeps a notebook of which she gives the title, \"conscience accounting book\". The purpose of this notebook is to keep a tally of how much money customers owe her, as she more than often excuses the elementary school students from paying. On a daily basis, she tells them, \"Don't worry about it. Just pay me next time!\" One day, a mysterious wanderer, Jimmy, appears in the small village. While unsure as to the purpose of Jimmy's visit, Midori the postman mistakes Jimmy to be a priest. Because Jimmy's looks resemble that of a foreigner, A-Mien assumes he knows English, and asks Jimmy to give her and Yabi, a parentless child, English classes. However, the reason behind A-Mien's interest in learning English is unknown. Meanwhile, Midori feels anxious and uneasy because of all the time A-Mien is spending away from her store. It turns out that with the start of the English classes, along comes a sense of change throughout the village, stirring up much curiosity amongst the fellow villagers. As the story unfolds, we discover that A-Mien, Midori, Jimmy, and Yabi each carry their own load of guilt and regret, of which they have bottled up inside for much too long. Then, on Christmas Eve, A-Mien enters the church, and finally brings herself to confront her guilt. With her broken English, she hesitates and then begins to say: \"God, I have a sin...\"
