Plot Summary:Returning from South Africa the midwives find the grim Sister Ursula has taken over as superior from Sister Julienne and is intent on imposing a frugal regime and an unwelcome new system. The nurses are also concerned for put-upon mother-to-be Trudy Watts, whose ex-con husband Lester is bullying her and their five-year old son Mickey. Having escaped from him to give birth at the convent Trudy decides to stand up for herself but needs Phyllis's help to triumph. Getting caught up in the domestic violence does not help Sister Mary Cynthia's fragile mental health but Shelagh has good news for her husband.
